Why is this important?

Together beef and dairy production are a major contributor to the United States CO2 emissions

Over the past decade cattle production has become increasingly consolidated. These practices have lead to unsustainable industries and have contributed to the degradation of our environment. The global meat production industry produces more greenhouse emissions than the global transportation sector. This is a problem and I am hoping that through these maps, the places where the dairy cattle and beef cattle industry is the worst will be identified so we can start to work to migitate this national issue.

About

The goal of this project was to map the number of dairy, beef, and feed cattle in the United States to understand where and how the majority of cattle are raised.

In addition to this, mapping where the these major farms are in relation to people is important because these factory farms leak many different pollutants potentially creating health problems for local communities.

I am a current senior at Brandeis University, majoring in Biology and Environmental Studies. This past semester I have been researching the history of beef along with the current sustainability of the market.
